Courageous Identity – Teen Edition Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the 10 most frequently asked questions so far…

I would say between 13 and 16, BUT it is for anyone 13+. I have had several parents ask me if they could use it with their 12 year olds…my answer is: The 12-year-old MIGHT be ready, IF they are either being drawn to or influenced by culture in a major way that can’t wait for a little more maturity. Parents know their child best. But ideally, 13+ is the target.
As much as they want or feel they need to be. The Parent’s Guide gives the parent a summary of each week’s topic, heads up notices when a particularly gritty topic is being addressed, and other tips to help if necessary. Some parents will want to discuss the topics with their students, while others are more hands-off. Either is perfectly fine and equally effective – you all know your student best. This course offers you that flexibility.

There is currently a digital only Parent’s Guide. There may be a print version offered in the future, depending on the demand. Also included in the Parent’s Guide (digital product) is a link to a complementary copy of The Warrior in the Mirror Women’s Bible Study Journal digital product.

This course is set up to cover a 180-day school year. This doesn’t mean that your specific student will be comfortable with that pace…you may want to spread it out over a longer period of time. Each day’s work is a two page spread (there are a few exceptions to this, with several one-page lessons) which should take your student between 30 and 45 minutes per day. However, please allow them the time to really process the concepts at a deep level.

This is a FULL elective or Bible credit. It might even be more if your student really digs in and spends time doing other, related research or projects.

The Scripture quotes are either ESV, NLT, NKJ, or KJV. However, the student is welcome to use their own preferred Bible version for the course.
Short answer: no. Longer answer: most of the pages throughout the entire book require writing of some type. If you purchase the digital version, PLEASE plan on using it with a tablet and stylus or iPad and Apple Pencil. The student MUST have access to all pages of the course.
No. This is a one-of-a-kind, comprehensive Biblical Life Coaching course written for Christian teens living in THIS TIME PERIOD.( I will cover what is studied in the next question and answer.)

This course begins with helping the student figure out and articulate where they are in their lives – in their relationship with God, with themselves, with others around them, and with the culture. Next, we talk about controlling technology and learning how to train our automatic thought patterns. Then we dive into the good stuff…studying the foundations of WHO God is according to His Word, Who He says we are, and finally, what our purpose is here on earth. Along the way, the students learn logic and leadership skills that are the foundation of Holy-Spirit-fueled life habits, and cement-solid arguments to know without a shadow of doubt that the Bible is the trustworthy Word of God Himself.

My life’s story has been one of overcoming incredible strongholds of evil in my own life. As a child, I experienced long-term traumatic abuse (especially spiritual) neglect, and absolute life-shattering lies about who God is, who I am, and what my purpose is – yet I have been healed, set free, and proclaimed CHOSEN by the God of the Universe. Isaiah the Prophet says it best in Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” (ESV) Over the last few years, I have worked to earn my certification through the American Association of Christian Counseling in Mental Health Coaching and a Teen Life Coaching Certification through the John C. Maxwell Life Coaching Training program. Courageous Identity – Teen Edition is a culmination of ALL of the experiences, lessons, and training I have come through in my life.

The MISSION

Before He returned to His place at His Father’s right hand, Jesus left us a series of commands about what we, as His true disciples, need to be filling our lives with while we await His return. We can read this Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20. Courageous Identity is a ministry of encouragement and truth for the youth of our generation. More than any other time in modern history, our culture is one of confusion and lies. What God’s Word declares to be right, has been declared hateful, and everything twisted and false has been elevated to “love and tolerance.” So many of our youth are entering adulthood with so much confusion and fear. I’ve seen it in my children’s eyes, and I’ve seen it in my students as well.

My personal experience with allowing the Word of God to overcome the lies and trauma of my childhood enables me to cut through the garbage being shoved on our young people. I know from experience that freedom is found in finding our true identity. Courageous Identity Teen Ministry’s motto is simple: Know God. Know you. It’s really that simple. God is not the author of confusion. He offers peace, strength, and wisdom to those who come to Him with an undivided heart.
